As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our patients, deliver personal care whilst promoting privacy and dignity and support patients with their nutritional, skin, continence, and mobility care. We need our HCSWs to be flexible, working a variety of shifts. Our rosters are provided 6 weeks in advance with the possibility of a bank contract too. There is an induction period, pastoral care and support within your role and training and qualifications.

Fanshawe and Lower Brambles are level 3 rehabilitation wards at the RSH Hospital providing step- up and transfer of care beds to support acute admission avoidance.

We also operate a level 2b Neurological Rehabilitation unit and a Neuropsychiatric unit which provide a range of specialist rehabilitation. As part of Solent's exciting Futures project, we are bringing all our community rehabilitation wards onto a single site in September 2024 at the Western Community Hospital with a new purpose-built rehabilitation centre of excellence.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

You will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team alongside service users to promote independence and daily living skills, including personal hygiene, diet and fluids, encouraging them to engage in social or leisure activities as identified within their Care Plan.

This role will provide support in management of risk, developing therapeutic relationships, supporting people to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Act as a role model for team members, supporting new or less experienced colleagues.

This role will assist and support qualified staff and carry out assigned tasks as directed, without supervision.

This role will demonstrate excellent communication skills, using them to engage, persuade or negotiate with clients with complex, at times challenging needs to ensure they are provided with the most appropriate care and support.

Person specification



GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent
Qualification at Level 2 or in Health and Social Care or another relevant subject 



Experience in working in a healthcare setting.
Experience of working in an environment where clients demonstrating challenging behaviour 

Additional Criteria


Is able to work legally in the UK.

Is able to travel to other venues for training.

Is able to work with vulnerable adults.

Is able to work a variety of shift patterns, including early, late, night and weekend shifts.
