Job summary

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our patients, deliver personal care whilst promoting privacy and dignity and support patients with their nutritional, skin, continence and mobility care. We need our HCSWs to be flexible, working a variety of shifts. Our rosters are provided 6 weeks in advance with the possibility of a bank contract too.

Snowdon ward is a 14 bed neurorehabilitation unit caring for patients with complex physical and cognitive challenges, with the aim of enabling independence and quality of life by supporting inpatients with their personal care and personalised rehabilitation goals.

We also operate a Neuropsychiatric unit for people following acquired brain injuries and require a range of specialist rehabilitation and as part of Solent's exciting Futures project we are moving our physical rehabilitation wards onto the Western Community Hospital site into a new purpose built unit, so that all our community rehabilitation wards sit on a single site as we move towards being a rehabilitation centre of excellence.

There is an induction period, pastoral care and support within your role and training and qualifications on offer!

Main duties, tasks & skills required

  • You will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team alongside service users to promote independence and daily living skills, including personal hygiene, diet and fluids, encouraging them to engage in social or leisure activities as identified within their Care Plan.
  • This role will provide support in management of risk, developing therapeutic relationships, supporting people to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
  • Act as a role model for team members, supporting new or less experienced colleagues.
  • This role will assist and support qualified staff and carry out assigned tasks as directed, without supervision. This will include housekeeping duties where required.
  • This role will demonstrate excellent communication skills, using them to engage, persuade or negotiate with clients with complex, at times challenging needs to ensure they are provided with the most appropriate care and support.
